GreenWave has 20 farmers in training - meet five of them below.



Pawcatuck, Connecticut

Jay and Suzie own and operate a small marina on the Pawcatuck River in CT. They have been married for 9 years and have three children. Suzie holds a BS in Environmental Science and has ten years of market development experience. Jay served as a combat photographer in the US Marine Corps and applies his mechanical engineering degree to fixing boats and machinery at their marina. Both are dedicated to their local waters and the local economy those waters support. They are excited to be a part of the growing kelp industry and bring sustainable ocean veggies to their neighborhood.


Pawcatuck, Connecticut

David is the owner and farmer behind Port Judith Kelp Co. and is an 11th generation fisher turned ocean farmer from Rhode Island. As a lifelong fisher and coastal entrepreneur with a degree in ocean engineering from the University of Rhode Island, David brings a wide range of skills and experience to the new blue-green economy. David is GreenWave’s first farmer in Rhode Island and is already working to support the next generation of ocean farmers in the state.





Santa Barbara, California

Daniel co-owns the Santa Barbara based ocean farm, PharmerSea, with his wife, Antoinette. A native to Santa Barbara and son to a Californian migrant farmer, Daniel is GreenWave’s first ocean farmer on the West Coast. As a former facilities specialist at the University of Santa Barbara, he brings years of experience into the world of ocean farming and processing infrastructure. Specializing in water and energy efficiency, Daniel supported GreenWave in designing and building the nation’s most advanced seaweed hatchery.



Branford, Connecticut

Nick has over eight years of experience working with land based agriculture ranging from vegetable to dairy production. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut at Storrs with a B.S. in Natural Resources and a concentration in fisheries management. He recently joined GreenWave’s farmer training program and is also supporting with our hatchery program.
